Aftercare Advice Dermal Filler Treatment

The following aftercare advice helps to reduce complications of treatment, improve your healing and helps achieve the best results from treatment.

Immediately after dermal filler injections, the treatment area may be red, tender or swollen. The redness and tenderness should improve after forty-eight hours. It is important to note that swelling is often worst on days two or three after injection, and should improve by day five. It should be resolved by two weeks. If you have concerns regarding swelling, please contact us for advice. Swelling may be reduced by regular cold compresses, anti-inflammatory medications (i.e., Ibuprofen, to be taken twenty-four hours after treatment) or antihistamines.

Bruising is very common following treatment. This will resolve naturally, but may take up to two weeks to settles. Regular application of Arnica Cream can be beneficial.

Please follow the below aftercare advice:

• Avoid make-up for twenty four hours after treatment as this will reduce the risk of infection.
• Drink plenty of water after treatment.
• Avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks for twenty four hours after treatment.
• Avoid medications such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen for twenty-four hours after treatment as these act to thin the blood, increasing bruising. If these medications have been advised by your GP, please consult your GP prior to stopping.
• Avoid excess sun exposure, swimming/saunas or strenuous exercise until, the redness and swelling has settled.
• Tenderness at the injection site when touched is normal, but pain at rest is not. If you experience pain, you must contact us as soon as possible.

*For non-surgical rhinoplasty, you must not wear any glasses for a minimum of forty-eight hours after treatment (preferably for five days post-treatment).

A rare complication of dermal filler is vascular occlusion (the accidental blocking of a blood vessel with filler). The signs and symptoms include a severe throbbing, aching pain with associated paleness of the skin with a cold feeling when touched. There can be a purple streaking/mottling to the skin. If you experience any of these symptoms, you must contact us immediately or seek urgent medical attention.

You must seek emergency medical attention if you notice any visual disturbances or loss of vision after the filler injections.

You must seek medical attention and contact us if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin with pus formation and fever/feeling unwell.

If you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment (i.e., rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties), you must seek emergency medical treatment.

Results can be assessed at two weeks, allowing time for residual swelling to settle.
